In Wake of Andre Johnson-Cortland Finnegan Fight, Is After-the-Whistle Fighting Good for NFL? As the NFL tries to clean up head-to-head hits in its league, the past couple of weeks have seen players resort to fist-to-head hits.

Last week, it was Raiders defensive end Richard Seymour delivering an open-handed uppercut to Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. The former Patriot, Seymour, was fined but not suspended.

On Sunday, however, Texans receiver Andre Johnson and Titans cornerback Cortland Finnegan made the Seymour-Roethlisberger tussle look like a game of patty-cake when the AFC South rivals went toe-to-toe in a fist fight without helmets. Johnson got the better of Finnegan, but both players were fined for their actions.

We're used to seeing these kind of fights in the preseason, but it seems they've now made their way into the regular season as well. The fights can be exciting, but for a sport already as violent as football, is it needed?
