Report: Liverpool Interested in Bid for Darren Bent

Go ahead and add Darren Bent to the list of names rumored to be on Roy Hodgson's list of strikers targeted for a January transfer.

According to CaughtOffside, Liverpool is interested in bringing the prolific English international to Anfield, though his price tag rests at a hefty $35 million (22 million pounds), and Sunderland manager Steve Bruce may demand even more money to let his star striker leave the Stadium of Light.

The 26-year-old Bent has often been ignored for the England squad despite his nose for goal, but he recently scored his first international goal against Switzerland in Euro 2012 qualifying.

For Sunderland, he has scored an impressive 34 goals in 53 appearances — a rate even better than Gonzalo Higuain's at Real Madrid.

The Black Cats recently signed Asamoah Gyan for a record amount, and he has lived up to his fee — meaning that Bent may be slightly more expendable than in the past. It would also be tough to imagine that a scorer of Bent's caliber wouldn't have aspirations for a move to a club like Liverpool.

The pairing of Bent and Fernando Torres as Liverpool's strike force would give the Reds a scoring duo as prolific as any in the Premier League.
