The Zenit St. Petersburg striker Aleksandr Kerzhakov says he has been approached by Liverpool for a potential move to Merseyside.

The striker scored two hat tricks in nine days for Zenit in the last month and this is likely what caused Liverpool to approach him as Reds manager Roy Hodgson is looking for an attacker to take away some of the the goal-scoring pressure from Fernando Torres.

The 27-year-old seems content with his home in Russia but a potential move might be on the horizon for the forward, though he has not given Liverpool an answer yet.

“The talk about Liverpool is not baseless. The British club came to my agent with a proposal but I did not give an answer. I have other things to think about and in all respects I am happy in Russia,” he told Rossiyskaya Gazeta.

Kerzhakov gave many good reasons for leaning towards staying with Zenit instead of going to Liverpool.

“My team is in first place in the national championship and I have always said that I wanted to play for Zenit,” Kerzhakov stated. “In the case of Liverpool, I will take no initiative, but I can count the fingers on one hand for the amount of clubs I could theoretically go to.”

Liverpool would have to make an offer he couldn’t refuse in order to take him away from his home team who are still playing some top-notch football.
