Fan Forum: Should Bruins Be Using Tuukka Rask More This Season? Jack Edwards said he was a front-runner for MVP. He’s the no-doubt choice for the Vezina. Through the first three months of the season, Bruins goalie Tim Thomas has been on the short list of the game’s best players.

So should he be sitting more?

It may seem like an asinine question, on the surface, but is it really? The Bruins have Tuukka Rask on the bench, and even following a three-day layoff for the holiday, it was Thomas in net when the Bruins skated with the Panthers on Monday. The next night, Thomas was back in against the Lightning.

If Rask makes the start on Thursday — which likely will happen, but you never know — it will be his first start since Dec. 15. That will be a 15-day layoff.

Of course, there’s no debating how good Thomas has been. But do the Bruins run the risk of letting Rask get rusty by not seeing the ice very often? Even worse, do they run the risk of wearing down the 36-year-old Thomas before the All-Star break? The Bruins have been relying on Thomas to not only be good, but be spectacular. That’s not a good habit to get into. That’s for sure.

Rask has had some bad luck this year. His 2-7-1 record doesn’t reflect how well he’s played. After all, that win-loss record comes with a 2.57 goals-against average and a .927 save percentage.

It’s probably safe to assume that Rask will be in there when the B’s take the ice on Thursday in Atlanta. Should that be the start of an increased presence of Tuukka Time? Or should the B’s take the if-it-ain’t-broke-don’t-fix-it approach.
