Kevin Youkilis Promises Ron Johnson’s Daughter a New Horse After Horrific Accident

Kevin Youkilis is simply a different kind of superstar. He'll play any position, bat in any spot in the lineup, all at an All-Star level, and all without one word of complaint. He's a perennial MVP candidate, but he gets paid like a role player. Still, there's no gripes from Youkilis.

It's not surprising, then, that in order to hear about his charitable deeds, you have to get the information secondhand. His Hit for Kids charity is well-publicized, but his latest good deed has flown under everyone's radar. And it comes in the form of a horse.

The horse is for Bridget Johnson, the daughter of Red Sox first base coach Ron Johnson. Bridget was riding her horse, Rhonda, in Tennessee last summer when a car drove into her and the horse. Bridget survived but had to have her leg amputated, and the horse had to be put down.

Recently, The Boston Globe's Amalie Benjamin traveled to Tennessee to spend time with the Johnsons, and in her story, the Sox coach shares some of the gifts his family has received since the incident.

Among them, and perhaps the most gracious, is the promise of a new horse from Youkilis.

It was just one of many overly kind deeds from the Red Sox.

"I've never been prouder to work for somebody than I was after going through this, because there's so much care about the person," Johson told the Globe regarding Theo Epstein and the Red Sox.
