The Red Sox may have lost out on another bullpen prospect.

According to Hall of Famer Peter Gammons, former Twins right-hander Jesse Crain has signed a three-year contract with the Chicago White Sox. The 29-year-old reliever posted a 3.04 ERA in 71 appearances for the Twins last season, striking out 62 in 68 innings pitched.

The announcement comes on the coattails of Matt Guerrier's three-year deal with the Dodgers, further bolstering the case that the Red Sox' need to shell out a multi-year deal for a reliever this offseason.

No details have been released regarding the salary attached to Crain's deal. The righty has played all seven seasons of his career in Minnesota, and was granted free agency on Nov. 1.
