The Red Sox have been busy this week, to say the least, but they're not done yet.
According to ESPN.com's Buster Olney, the Sox are front-runners to acquire catcher Russell Martin. Olney cited "folks with knowledge of the talks."
Martin, 27, was not tendered a contract by the Dodgers last week. After winning a Gold Glove and getting named to two All-Star teams in his first three seasons, he's had a bit of a decline since the beginning of 2009. In 240 games from 2009-10, Martin batted .249 with 12 homers and 79 RBIs.
Reports earlier Thursday indicated the Sox were in a three-team race with the Yankees and Blue Jays to acquire the catcher. The Red Sox have Jarrod Saltamacchia and Jason Varitek under contract next season, but Saltalamacchia has options and could start the season in Triple-A.
