Ryan Leaf is embarking on a new career path. Interestingly enough, he's afforded that opportunity partially because he was so bad at his previous career.
The former No. 2 overall pick had a short-lived NFL career, but now he's trying his hand as an author. According to CougFan.com, Leaf has signed a deal to write three books.
The first will be about Leaf's time at Washington State.
"For sports fans generally, it will offer an unvarnished look at the world of college athletics, good and bad," Leaf said in the story.
Another book "will be a broader biography on the triumphs, trials and tribulations of a life lived much in the public eye," while the third will focus on his personal battle with prescription painkiller addiction.
The first book is tentatively slated for an October 2011 release.
Leaf, still just 34 years old, was drafted by the San Diego Chargers in 1998, just one spot behind Peyton Manning. While Manning has gone on to forge a Hall of Fame career in Indianapolis, Leaf threw 36 interceptions and just 14 touchdowns in 25 career games.
