Doc Rivers Just One Victory From Passing K.C. Jones for Third on Celtics Coaching Win List

Doc Rivers has had his share of ups and downs throughout his seven years as head coach of the Celtics. Eventually, the ups have added up in impressive fashion.

Rivers now has 308 victories to his name with the Celtics, which puts him in a third-place tie in franchise history with K.C. Jones. Jones is remembered for leading the C's to two championships during Larry Bird's heyday before walking away in 1988.

The C's coach needed a win on Saturday night against the Bulls for Rivers to pass Jones and move into third place all alone, but it wasn't to be. On Monday night, at home against the Rockets, he'll get another chance.

Rivers is 308-220 all-time leading the Celtics, for a winning percentage of .583. He also ranks third all-time among Orlando Magic head coaches, with 171 career wins.

If Rivers were to stick around through 2013 or beyond, he'd have a pretty good shot at overtaking Celtic legend Tom Heinsohn for second on the C's career wins list — before he was doling out Tommy Points, the old-timer won 427 games as a coach between 1969 and '78.

Red Auerbach holds the franchise's all-time record with 795 career victories.
