Former Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson did all he could to curtail the always sky-high expectations from the club's fanbase all the way up through the time he was let go. Now his replacement, Kenny Dalglish, is doing the same.

Dalglish, speaking to the media following LFC's 1-0 FA Cup loss to Manchester United on Sunday, warned LFC fans that success won't come overnight.

"We won't always be successful, and to be perfectly realistic I think we have to say 'Let's just start walking before we run," Dalglish said on the club's website. "Let's not go crazy here and think the season changes and we're going to sweep everything aside now and go undefeated from now to the end of the season."

While Dalglish urged supporters to give it some time, he was pleased with some of the immediate results he saw in his side's effort and performance despite the setback against United.

"Obviously I'm not going to be pleased to lose a match but the most important thing for us is what we got out of it – that we had a great deal of effort and commitment from the players. Their endeavor and enthusiasm and commitment to the cause was matched by the supporters and if we get everyone pulling in the same direction, we'll have a good chance to improve things going forward.

"I don't think any one of our players could be faulted for effort and commitment. Yes, they might pass it better or finish it better but this is a hard place to come."

Liverpool will try and take their next step toward improvement when they take to the pitch again on Jan. 12 against Blackpool.
