Vote: Has Wes Welker's News Conference Been the Most Entertaining Jets-Patriots Storyline This Week? The Jets-Patriots rivalry extends well beyond the gridiron.

For years, the Jets have been producing enough material to cover 50 Gillette Stadium locker room bulletin boards. While the Pats tend to let their play do the talking, that’s not to say players and coaches don’t have some fun with the media when it comes to their AFC East rivals.

The punches were thrown early this week, and to no one’s surprise, they came from New Jersey. On Monday, Jets head coach Rex Ryan told the press that this was personal between him and head coach Bill Belichick — that it is “about Bill Belichick versus Rex Ryan.”

Belichick took the challenge literally. After all, there’s not too much to joke around about when preparing for a playoff game.

“I think I might have a little quickness on him,” he said. “He’s probably got a little strength and power on me. I don’t think you’ll see either one of us out there making any blocks or tackles or runs or throws or catches — at least you won’t see me doing that. It’s probably a good thing for our team.”

Just two days later, cornerback Antonio Cromartie got in on the action and called Patriots quarterback Tom Brady a very bad word.

How did that go over with the three-time Super Bowl champ?

“I’ve been called worse,” Brady told the media. “I bet there’s a long list of people that feel that way. He’s a good player. [Cornerback Darrelle] Revis is a great player. They’ve got a great secondary. They’re one of the best defenses we’ve faced.

“In fact,” Brady added, “Belichick has called me that. My offensive coordinator calls me that, and I know they like me, so maybe [Cromartie] really likes me.”

On Thursday afternoon, Wes Welker made headlines by using the words “foot,” “feet” and “toes” a total of 11 times during his news conference. I wonder why?
