Howard Bryant, a senior writer for ESPN, was arrested on Saturday for allegedly assaulting his estranged wife outside of a restaurant in Buckland, Mass., according to the Boston Herald.

A customer inside the Buckland Pizza House called police to report that a man had a woman “by the neck and had pinned her against the car and was assaulting her,” state police Sergeant Richard Cadran told the Herald.

Bryant allegedly resisted arrest when state trooper Brian Doake informed him that he was going to be arrested for domestic assault and other officers were needed to help handcuff him.

The couple’s six-year-old son was in the back of the vehicle while the alleged assault took place, according to the police report.

Bryant, 42, was released on $5,000 cash bail posted by his attorney on Saturday afternoon. He is set to be arraigned in Greenfield District Court on Monday where he will face charges of domestic assault and battery, assault and battery on a police officer and resisting arrest.

The woman involved in the altercation has not been identified.

Neither Bryant nor ESPN has made an official comment at this time.
