A thigh injury has kept Andy Carroll from making his Liverpool debut since he was traded to the Reds for £35 million ($56.9 million) before the transfer window closed.
Fans want to know when Carroll’s debut will finally happen, but Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish won’t say.
Carroll, 22, hasn’t played in a match since Dec. 28, which was with his former team Newcastle United.
With a big game against Manchester United set for Sunday, Dalglish was asked which players won’t play.
“Obviously Martin Kelly won’t play with a hamstring strain and Jonjo Shelvey won’t be available either. Everybody else’s fitness is more positive than that. Who we have and what we go with we won’t know yet — and that includes Andy Carroll,” Dalglish said according to Liverpoolfc.tv.
“Andy’s training was always progressing but it hasn’t progressed into a game yet,” he added. “We’ve said all along that we’ve been delighted with his progress and there hasn’t been anything he’s done that hasn’t been encouraging.”
Dalglish said Carroll may not even be available to sub in Sunday’s game as he may be attending an Irish pop group concert.
“He might not even be a substitute — he might be going to see Boyzone,” he joked.
