Rivalries exist thanks to mutual animosity and a "my team is better than yours" attitude between players and fans — or in this case, just the fans.
Two college football legends from rivalry schools — Florida great Tim Tebow and Georgia legend Herschel Walker — are now co-owners of D1 Savannah, a sports training center in Georgia.
"I'm sure there are some Georgia fans out there who won't be happy about it," D1 Sports spokesman Matt Toy told the Savannah Morning News.
D1 Sports, a Nashville-based company that operates 13 training centers in the Southeast and Midwest
and partners with professional athletes at each of its locations, announced Tuesday that Tebow would join Walker as a co-owner of the company's sports training and therapy center in Savannah, Ga., which opened last September.
"I chose to be a co-owner of D1 because I believe it is the top training company in the country, and I want to help and watch D1 directly impact the lives of other athletes for years to come just like it continues to positively impact mine," Tebow said in a news release.
Other professional athletes that co-own various D1 sports locations they have a connection with are Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning, who played his college career at Tennessee and is invested in the Knoxville D1 location, and Memphis Grizzlies star Shane Battier, who is involved with the Memphis D1.
Tebow will host an event on May 12 where he will work out with Savannah D1 members, and Walker will host his own event to do the same thing two days later — don't read into the separate event dates, though, as there's no rivalry between these two former Heisman winners.
"They wanted to do it together, but their schedules wouldn't allow it," Toy told the newspaper. "It's not a case where the Georgia Heisman winner refuses to work out with the Florida Heisman winner."
