Bruins Have History Against Them After Dropping First Two Games of Stanley Cup Final The 0-2 hole for the Bruins in the 2011 Stanley Cup Final is far from an enviable position. Only two teams since the expansion era began in 1966 have come back to win after dropping Games 1 and 2.

However, this situation is not unfamiliar territory for the Bruins. In a first-round matchup with longtime rival Montreal, the Bruins headed north to the Bell Centre down 0-2, dropping two games on home ice.

After three straight wins, including two on the road, the Bruins went on to win the series in seven games.

Coincidentally, the Canadiens are one of the only two teams to pull off a comeback in the Stanley Cup Final after beating the Chicago Blackhawks in seven games in 1971. The 2009 Pittsburgh Penguins, behind the play of Evgeni Malkin, captured the cup in seven games as well after dropping two straight to the Detroit Red Wings.

Although an unlikely team to draw inspiration from, the Canadiens were in the exact same position the Bruins find themselves in now — coming home down 0-2.

The Bruins have pulled out a series like this before in these playoffs. Another would be one for the ages.
