Bruins 2011-12 Schedule Released: B’s Begin Stanley Cup Title Defense Against Flyers at Home on Oct. 6

Bruins 2011-12 Schedule Released: B's Begin Stanley Cup Title Defense Against Flyers at Home on Oct. 6 The Bruins will kick off the 2011-12 season on Oct. 6 against the Philadelphia Flyers and will raise the Stanley Cup championship banner for the first time in 39 years in front of an emotional and raucous TD Garden crowd.

The NHL schedule, which was released Thursday on NHL.com, shows that the Bruins will be facing every Eastern Conference team they met in the Stanley Cup playoffs this year, all in the span of one month.

The Bruins even get to renew their rivalry with the Canucks, when Vancouver comes to town on Jan. 7, 2012.

The Tampa Bay Lightning will also be coming into town on Oct. 8 for the Bruins' second game of the season in an Eastern Conference Finals rematch. The Bruins will continue their rivalry with the Montreal Canadiens with a home-and-home series against Montreal on Oct. 27 and 29.

Out of Boston's first 17 games, 13 of them will be at home — including a matchup against the San Jose Sharks and former Bruins captain Joe Thornton.

Boston will host the new Winnipeg franchise, which has yet to be named as of Thursday afternoon, on Nov. 26. The B's will make their first trip to Winnipeg shortly thereafter, on Dec. 6.
