Former North Carolina State Quarterback Russell Wilson Leaves Colorado Rockies Affiliate to Play at Wisconsin Former North Carolina State quarterback Russell Wilson has left a Colorado Rockies minor league affiliate to transfer to the University of Wisconsin, ESPN is reporting.

Wilson will be immediately eligible to play for the Badgers because he graduated from N.C. State in three years. Head coach Bret Bielema has announced that Wilson will compete for the starting job.

After starting at quarterback for the Wolfpack the past three seasons for coach Tom O'Brien, Wilson was released from his scholarship. He had narrowed down his choices of where to transfer to Wisconsin and reigning national champion Auburn.

Wilson was a fourth-round pick by the Colorado Rockies in the 2010 MLB draft, and had been playing second base for the Single-A Asheville Tourists. He was batting .228 in 61 games this year, and went 0-for-5 with a run scored in his last appearance for the team on Saturday.

It's unclear if the Rockies will welcome Wilson back if he chooses not to pursue an NFL career after football season ends.
