Starting in 2013, NCAA Division I ice hockey is going to look a little different.

Six colleges — Colorado College, University of Denver, Miami University, University of Minnesota Duluth, University of Nebraska Omaha and University of North Dakota — released a joint statement on NHL.com stating that the colleges will form a new hockey conference.

The new conference will encompass some top collegiate ice hockey programs, including last year's NCAA champions in Minnesota Duluth. In the past decade, Denver has won two championships and North Dakota has won one.

The new conference's inaugural season will be the 2013-14 season. Until then, the schools will continue to play in their respective conferences. The programs will release more information about the new conference during a press conference on Wednesday, July 13.
