Outfielder Joey Gathright will be called up to the Red Sox on Tuesday, according to a tweet by NESN’s Peter Gammons.

Gathright, who played for the Red Sox in 2009, was with the independent Yuma Scorpions when Boston signed him last month. He was 3-for-8 with two RBIs and a stolen base in four games for Pawtucket, the last two of which came in the International League playoffs.

The 30-year-old Gathright appeared with four major league teams between 2004 and 2009, capped by 17 games with Boston down the stretch in ’09. The left-handed hitter owns a .263 career average and 80 stolen bases in 109 attempts.
