Steven Stamkos is spending his NHL offseason like many players probably are: staying busy, exercising and blowing off steam. What sets Stamkos apart is that he's doing all of those things while playing on a beer league baseball team in Ontario.
According to the Toronto Star, the Tampa Bay Lightning center moonlights as an outfielder for a team with a bunch of his high school buddies in a fast-pitch wood bat league.
How good is he?
"He could have been better at baseball than hockey," says the team's third baseman, Adam Velocci.
Stamkos is reportedly batting .608.
The NHL star reportedly also buys most of the equipment for the team and picks up the bar tab after games — but only if they win.
It's not that surprising that he'd splurge after wins, but you'd think that after signing a $37.5 million contract this offseason, he might be able to afford to pay after losses, too.
