Tony La Russa has nothing left to prove in Major League Baseball, so the manager is going out in style.

La Russa, 67, announced his retirement Monday morning, just three days after he led the Cardinals to a World Series title.

The manager made the announcement at a news conference.

La Russa has managed teams to World Series championships three times. His first came in 1989 with the Oakland A's, and he won with the Cardinals in 2006 and 2011.

He ranks third all time in wins with a 2,728-2,365 record over 33 years, a stretch that included 14 postseason appearances.
