Maxi Scores Copycat Goal to Down Chelsea, Send LFC to Carling Cup Semifinal (Video)

Maxi Rodriguez, for scoring your second goal at Chelsea in nine days, I dub thee, “Baron of the Bridge.”

The Liverpool attacker netted the game-winner Tuesday from almost the same spot as did just over a week ago.

Rodriguez has only seen sporadic playing time so far this season, with just two English Premier League appearances and four more in the Carling Cup. But he loves the limelight of England’s capital city, as Kenny Dalglish said last week after his goal tied the score in the first leg of the grudge match.

“He likes London, Maxi — he likes the temperature here! He’s a really intelligent footballer, as is Craig Bellamy. The two of them really appreciate their profession, they know how to look after themselves. We know what we get from both the lads and you could see how good they are.”

On Tuesday, the Argentine forward finished off a lethal Liverpool counterattack to open the scoring in the 58th minute. Jay Spearing played a pass forward from deep in his own half to Jordan Henderson. Henderson turned and quickly fed Bellamy, who was streaking down the right, with a perfectly-weighted through pass.

Bellamy beat the artist formerly known as Chelsea’s offside trap and crossed low to Maxi, who calmly finished. Well done, Baron.
