Christopher Bucknam serves as “The Voice of Medford High,” making morning announcements over the public address system at the school every morning. His voice was even more powerful when the school headmaster asked him to speak at a school meeting on behalf of the football team, however.

Bucknam’s speech about teamwork, persistence, heart and mutual respect in the school received an ovation and praise from headmaster Paul Krueger.

“Chris is respectful to his teachers and to his fellow classmates,” Krueger said in a statement posted by the MIAA. “Because of his easy demeanor, he regularly participates in class, and is a leader in class discussions. Chris arrives to MHS every day with a real enthusiasm for his school and his education.”

Bucknam was honored for his athletic and academic accomplishments as the MIAA/NESN Student-Athlete of the Month for September 2011.

Bucknam, a two-year varsity starter at guard for the Medford High School football team, was a team captain in 2011. The somewhat undersized lineman has faced defensive players almost twice his size in some games.

Bucknam carries a 3.12 grade point average and has posted advanced scores on MCAS exams.
