Five All-Star Games, five Silver Slugger Awards and five World Series rings later, Jorge Posada's playing days reportedly are over.

The longtime Yankees backstop is planning to retire, according to ESPN's Buster Olney. He's reportedly trying to determine the right time to make an announcement, and it's expected to come within the next two weeks.

Posada, a member of the Yankees' "Core Four" (along with Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera and Andy Pettitte), enjoyed amazing success throughout his 17-year career. Last season, however, retirement rumors swirled after he asked to be removed from the lineup before a game against the Red Sox. After the season, he stated that he was unsure about his future but that he wasn't going to be returning to New York.

Posada, 40, is a career .273 hitter, and he's clubbed 275 home runs while compiling 1,065 RBIs.
