Vote: Should the Red Sox Retire Tim Wakefield's Number? No question about it: Tim Wakefield will go down as one of the most beloved Red Sox players of all time.

However, there is another important question left to ask about the knuckleballer, and that’s: should the Sox retire his number?

There are two qualifications to have the Red Sox retire a player’s number, according to RedSox.com. First, the payer must be elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Second, the player must have played at least 10 years for the ballclub.

Wakefield definitely has the second criteria under wraps as he played with the Red Sox for 17 seasons. However, 200 wins, 2,000 strikeouts and two World Series rings don’t go as far as they used to in terms of Cooperstown invites.

If Wake doesn’t make the Hall of Fame, do you think the Sox should make the “Johnny Pesky Exception” and retire his number? Vote below.
