Pep Guardiola Will Allow Sergio Busquets to Participate in 2012 OlympicsSpanish midfielder Sergio Busquets will be able to represent his country at the 2012 London Olympics, according to the newspaper Marca. The 23-year old was allowed by FC Barcelona head coach Pep Guardiola, and is waiting to be called up to the Olympic team by Spanish boss Luis Milla.

"I was already an Olympic athlete and I cannot keep him form that dream," Guardiola said. He promised Busquets has the liberty from the club to go if he is called up.

Guardiola lived a similar situation as a player in 1992. He played for Barcelona and was called up for the Olympics. When they were hosted in that city, the Spanish team took gold.

Milla negotiated with the club to allow Busquets to be part of the Olympic squad. If called up, the midfielder may still participate in Euro 2012, and then immediately head to the Olympics.

One of the "problems" for Milla is that Busquets will be 24 by the times the Games are played. He will have to serve as one of the team's three over-age (above 23) players.

According to Marca, senior national team head coach Vicente del Bosque, announced that the decision to call up Busquets will be entirely Milla's decision, and he will not get involved.
