Johann Cryuff Says Rumors Linking Him With Liverpool FC Are 'Just Talk'Johann Cruyff disavowed any rumors linking him with a move to Liverpool FC. The Dutch soccer legend has not been contacted by LFC about its vacant director of football position, and he has no plans to uproot his family from Barcelona, according to the Evening Standard.

“I see my name is being mentioned in connection with Liverpool,” Cruyff wrote in Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf. “I don’t know where that has come from because I have not heard anything from them. There has been no contact whatsoever.

“If you just read speculation like this, without any substance to it, there is no point taking it seriously. It is just talk.”

Liverpool is searching for someone to fill the director of football role, after the club parted ways with Damien Comolli last week. Cruyff was reportedly among the candidates to replace Comolli, but those rumors appear to be false.

LFC’s new director of football will work with manager Kenny Daglish to implement the club’s transfer strategy during the upcoming summer transfer window. It is likely Dalglish will have final say over all transfers in the absence of a senior executive.

Cruyff, 64, was a legend for FC Barcelona and the Netherlands during his playing days. He has held senior roles at FC Barcelona and Ajax, and recently became an advisor at Mexican giant CD Guadalajara (or “Chivas”).
