Sir Alex Ferguson and Roberto Mancini Fight in Sideline Confrontation (Video)The ideals of decorum, respect for elders and setting a positive example for the youth nearly went out the window during Monday’s Premier League game between Manchester United and Manchester City.

The managers of both teams, Roberto Mancini (City) and Sir Alex Ferguson (United), had to be separated during a contentious moment in the second half.

City destroyer Nigel de Jong committed a foul on United striker Danny Welbeck in the 76th minute. Ferguson was upset by this, and he let anyone within earshot know. He yelled something at Mancini and walked away. Mancini responded with words of his own, sending the 70-year-old United boss into a rage.

The fourth official had to seperate the pair, who jawed at each other on the way back to their respected benches.

City downed United 1-0 at Etihad Stadium, completing a league double over United. The Manchester clubs are tied atop the Premier League, but City leads on goal difference.

The growing rivalry between the two managers is one that will characterize the rivalry between the two teams going forward.
