Roger Federer had a bit of a senior moment Saturday.

The 17-time Grand Slam winner was at match point during his semifinal match against Kei Nishikori in the Gerry Weber Open. Nishikori backhanded a return volley into the net, which gave Federer the win and a chance to play in the championship match. This was apparent to everyone at the court, except for Federer that is.

Instead of walking to the center of the court to shake hands with his opponent, Federer walked back to the baseline to get set for another serve. Federer finally realized he was victorious, and ran to the net laughing, at his mistake.

“It was the first time in my career in over a thousand matches,” Federer said of his gaffe after the match, as reported by The Guardian.

Whether he can remember it or not, Federer will face off against Alejandro Falla of Colombia for the championship match of the tournament.
