Francesco Totti, Ashley Cole On AS Roma’s Roster For 2014 U.S. Tour

Francesco Totti RomaUSAAS Roma is hoping its 2014 U.S. tour provides the platform for success in the 2014-15 season.

Roma announced its 31-man roster for its U.S. tour Monday. It includes a host of stars — be they budding, shining or fading.

Club legends Francesco Totti and Daniele De Rossi headline Roma’s traveling party. Roma’s roster also includes Medhi Benatia, Gervinho, Miralem Pjanic and Mattia Destro, who helped Roma achieve an improbable second-place finish in Serie A (Italy’s first division) last season.

The “Giallorossi” and their fans are hoping fresh faces Juan Iturbe, Salih Ucan and Tonny Sanabria and veterans Ashley Cole, Seydou Keita and Urby Emanuelson can be impact signings who will help Roma claim domestic supremacy from rivals Juventus in 2014-15.

Roma will play at least five games during its U.S. tour, starting Wednesday when it faces Liverpool FC at Fenway Park in Boston.

Roma then will compete in the International Champions Cup — a preseason tournament featuring eight of Europe’s top clubs. Roma will play Manchester United on July 26, Real Madrid on July 29 and Inter Milan on Aug. 2. Roma will play another game on Aug. 4 if it wins its Champions Cup group.
