Newcastle fans were expected to bring the fireworks to St. James’ Park on Saturday. Hull City striker Nikica Jelavic brought them instead.

Jelavic scored a Premier League “Goal of the Season” contender in his team’s 2-2 draw against the Magpies. The Croatian met Ahmed Elmohamady’s cross with an acrobatic bicycle kick, which blasted past goalkeeper Tim Krul into the Newcastle goal.

Jelavic’s wonder-strike was his third goal of the 2014-15 season. The 29-year-old’s strike rate this season is astounding.

Jelavic’s goal gave Hull City the lead, and Mohamed Diame doubled the Tigers’ advantage 20 minutes later.

But Newcastle striker Papiss Cisse scored twice late in the second half to even the score and help stave off an expected mass fan protest, which is demanding owner Mike Ashley fire manager Alan Pardew.
