Dont'a Hightower, Jamie Collins, Daniel ThomasThe New England Patriots worked out a former Miami Dolphins running back, and there were no mind games afoot.

Running back Daniel Thomas tried out with the Patriots on Monday, ESPN’s Field Yates reported. Thomas, a 2011 second-round draft pick, was released by the Dolphins on Aug. 30 during final roster cuts.

Thomas, picked six selections after Patriots running back Shane Vereen and 11 spots in front of Stevan Ridley, averaged just 3.6 yards per carry with the Dolphins in three years. He also had 42 receptions for 291 yards and three touchdowns. He isn’t eligible for the practice squad.

The Patriots likely are updating their free-agent rolodex in case of future injuries.

The Patriots also worked out quarterback Brock Jensen and tight ends Evan Wilson and Brian Wozniak on Monday. All three players went undrafted in 2014 and would be practice-squad candidates.
