Boston Bruins center Patrice Bergeron reached the 500-point milestone Saturday night against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Bergeron assisted on Carl Soderberg’s power-play goal in the first period. The Quebec native now has 184 goals and 316 assists in 669 career NHL games.

Bergeron is the 13th player in Bruins history to reach this mark, and he moves one point ahead of Hockey Hall of Famer Adam Oates into sole possession on the team’s all-time scoring list.

Bergeron began his NHL career at age 18 during the 2003-04 season. He has tallied 50-plus points in six seasons and also has five 20-plus goal seasons on his résumé.

Scoring is not the strength of Bergeron’s game — he’s the best defensive forward in the league and a two-time Frank J. Selke Trophy winner — but he is an underrated offensive player, both at even strength and on the power play.

Bergeron needs 36 points to reach Bill Cowley in 12th place on the Bruins’ scoring list. Hall of Fame defenseman Ray Bourque is the team’s all-time leading scorer with 1,506 points.
