Stephen Mallan could play professional soccer for another two decades, but he’ll have a hard time scoring a better goal than his very first as a pro.

Mallan, 18, scored a sensational solo goal Saturday in St. Mirren’s 3-1 win over Dundee in Scotland’s Premier League. It already is a contender for the SPL’s “Goal of the Season” award.

St. Mirren was leading 2-1 when Mallan won the ball off an opponent in the midfield and decided to do the rest himself. Mallan dribbled past two opponents over 40 yards before curling a shot past the goalkeeper from 25 yards out.

The soccer world at large paid no attention when Mallan made his first-team debut for St. Mirren in late November, but his first goal have made many take notice of this budding talent in Scotland’s top flight.
