Steven Gerrard has worn the No. 8 jersey with aplomb for Liverpool since 2004. Gerrard will don the same number during his American soccer career.
The Los Angeles Galaxy announced Thursday that Gerrard will wear the No. 8 jersey for the Major League Soccer club. Gerrard will join the Galaxy in July after leaving Liverpool, and fans will be able to recognize him instantly.

“He is expected to make his first appearance in a Galaxy jersey when the team faces the San Jose Earthquakes in the California Clasico on Friday, July 17 at StubHub Center,” the Galaxy said in a statement.
The Galaxy has made Gerrard jerseys available for pre-order, and other Gerrard Galaxy memorabilia now is available at the club’s store.
