Frank Lampard is certain Steven Gerrard’s next move is the right one for him.

Lampard said Thursday Gerrard made the right decision to leave Liverpool after the 2014-15 season, according to the Liverpool Echo. Lampard is happy Gerrard is heading to Major League Soccer on his own terms, which contrasts his own departure from Chelsea after the 2013-14 season.

“I’m pleased for Stevie,” Lampard said. “I think it’s a very good move for him. What more can he do at Liverpool? He’s had a fantastic career.

“I think only individuals know the right time for them. I wasn’t sure about my time as a Chelsea player. The decision got made for me. When the decision is not made for you, and you have to make it yourself, then it’s more difficult.

“Only he knows that, and I think at the minute I would say yes because what more can he do? If not their greatest player, he will be right up there with the greatest players ever.

“I think maybe there’s a time at the club, when I look back at my time at Chelsea, and that Chelsea will move on and carry on. I am sure Stevie will look at Liverpool and see it the same way. Then you look at yourself and think ‘how can I finish in the right way’ — and Stevie will do that.”

Gerrard announced his Los Galaxy move in January, but his farewell tour hasn’t been a smooth one. Injuries and now a ban have his involvement in Liverpool’s pursuit of success, but the dream of lifting the FA Cup at Wembley Stadium in his final game for Liverpool (on his 35th birthday) lives on.

Gerrard and Lampard both will end their glittering Premier League careers this summer and join Major League Soccer clubs for the final years of their playing careers. The two friends, teammates, and opponents will remain linked in their adventure across the pond as they have been for the last decade-plus.
