Anfield will be the place to be during the break for international soccer later this month.

The Liverpool FC Foundation will host a special All-Star game March 29 at Anfield, with proceeds benefiting various charities in the city of Liverpool. Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher will captain and pick the teams, which also will include some of the best players the Liverpool legends have played with and against.

The All-Star charity game will give some fans a chance to bid Gerrard a fond farewell. Gerrard will leave Liverpool after the 2014-15 season and join Major League Soccer’s Los Angeles Galaxy.

Former Liverpool heroes Luis Suarez, Xabi Alonso, Dirk Kuyt, Fernando Torres and Pepe Reina are confirmed participants. Chelsea stars John Terry and Didier Drogba also will play, as will recently retired Arsenal legend Thierry Henry. Managers and additional participants will be announced in the coming weeks.

Current Liverpool players who are not on national team duty later this month also could appear in the All-Star charity game. Select young players from Liverpool’s academy will join their older club-mates for the game.
