Drew Miller Takes Skate To Face, Left With Nasty Gash Across Face (Video)

Drew Miller took a razor-sharp hockey skate to the face Tuesday night, and he got lucky.

He got lucky because it could have been a whole lot worse.

The Detroit Red Wings forward left early in the first period after having his face gashed by the skate of Ottawa forward Mark Stone. As the two players battled for a puck following a faceoff, Stone fell forward and kicked up his leg. His skate caught Miller’s face and sliced Miller open right across the right side of his face.

You knew things were bad when Miller abandoned the play and skated off the ice as fast as humanly possible. (The whole taking the skate to the face thing was also a pretty good indicator he was in a world of hurt.)

Miller needed a bunch of stitches to repair the damage.

You can see the picture blow, but WARNING: It’s really nasty.

Seriously, you’ve been warned.

The miraculous thing here is that there was no damage done to Miller’s eye. In fact, Detroit head coach Mike Babcock told reporters after the game — a 2-1 shootout loss — that Miller is expected to be ready to go Thursday when the Wings host the Boston Bruins.
