Jordon Ibe is in it for the long haul at Anfield.

Ibe signed a new, long-term contract with Liverpool FC on Thursday, according to the club website. Ibe’s new deal will run until 2020, The BBC and The Liverpool Echo report.

“I’m over the moon,” Ibe told LiverpoolFC.com. “It’s something I’ve been looking forward to.

“Liverpool are a great club, and I like the philosophy here. I’m enjoying it.

Manager Brendan Rodgers said Ibe, 19, earned the new deal.

“He has thoroughly deserved it,” Rodgers told LiverpoolFC.com. “He is a young kid that has got a lot of potential. He still has a lot of work to do to become that consistent performer at the top level, but there’s no doubting his potential, and he has really grown and developed over the course of the last season.

Ibe joined Liverpool’s Academy in 2011 and debuted in 2013. He made much of his progress during loan spells at Championship (English second division) clubs Birmingham City (in the second half of 2013-14) and Derby County (in the first half of 2014-15). Ibe then made an immediate impact upon returning to Liverpool in January, impressing in most of the 13 games he played for the Reds this term.

Ibe hopes to stick with Liverpool’s first team next season. He targets more playing time and goals in 2015-16.

“To be honest, the number one target for me is to get goals and try to stay in the team,” Ibe said, according to LiverpoolFC.com. “They’re the two main goals for me.”
