Mike Trout is pretty good at baseball. But you already knew that.

Trout, who is widely considered the best player on the planet, showcased his athleticism Friday with an amazing slide in the Los Angeles Angels’ game against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park. The play looked like something out of “The Matrix,” though a challenge was required to overturn the call.

Trout took off for third base in the fifth inning, at which point Red Sox catcher Blake Swihart fired down to Brock Holt. The throw was there in plenty of time, but Trout executed a perfect swim move to avoid Holt’s tag and swipe the bag.

Third base umpire John Tumpane initially called Trout out, perhaps thinking the reigning American League MVP overslid the base. The Angels challenged the call, though, and replays showed that Trout kept his body under control while slipping in his hand and maintaining contact with the bag.
