Report: Some Colts Players Upset With Team’s First-Round Draft Pick

The Indianapolis Colts had needs to address, and instead, they drafted another wide receiver.

There’s no denying the Colts have stockpiled weapons for quarterback Andrew Luck this offseason, but adding running backs and wide receivers doesn’t do much to address the team’s biggest needs. Indy proved last season it has issues on both sides of the line of scrimmage, which is why it was a bit curious that Indy selected wide receiver Phillip Dorsett in the first round with the 29th pick.

Not only did it confuse some, it apparently upset some players within the organization. ProFootballTalk.com reported Monday that there’s a handful of Colts players who were upset by the Colts’ draft, particularly the Dorsett pick, as they hoped the team would have addressed those aforementioned needs.

The Colts eventually addressed the issues with later picks but didn’t address the interior defensive line until the fifth round when they took nose tackle David Parry out of Stanford. They also took an inside linebacker in the sixth round and an offensive tackle in the seventh.

Dorsett is just the latest offensive skill player to join the Colts this offseason. Indianapolis already signed veteran wide receiver Andre Johnson and running back Frank Gore. Coincidentally, Johnson and Gore are both University of Miami alumni, which is where Dorsett went to school.
