FOXBORO, Mass. — One of the staples of the Winter Classic spectacle is the alumni game featuring former players of the two teams involved in the outdoor game.

The Boston Bruins and Montreal Canadiens will meet in the 2016 Winter Classic on Jan. 1, 2016 at Gillette Stadium, the home of the NFL’s New England Patriots. It will be the venue for the alumni game, which NHL commissioner Gary Bettman confirmed Wednesday will take place Dec. 31, as well.

Given the history of these Original Six teams, there should be plenty of Hall of Fame players on the ice that day.

Bettman also announced that an all-access show will return. He did not mention which network it would be aired on or what the title will be. Last season’s show aired on EPIX, followed the Chicago Blackhawks and Washington Capitals, and provided fans with a behind-the-scenes look leading up to the Winter Classic. Last year’s version was titled “Road to the NHL Winter Classic.”
