The injuries just won’t stop for the New England Patriots.

Wide receiver Julian Edelman broke a bone in his foot Sunday during the Patriots’ 27-26 win over the New York Giants, FOX Sports’ Mike Garafolo first reported, via a source. Edelman suffered a “Jones fracture,” Garafolo specified, and the wide receiver, on pace for his best season as a pro, could return for the playoffs.

NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport confirmed Garafolo’s report but said Edelman could return before the season is over.

The return from a Jones fracture typically takes between eight and nine weeks after surgery, according to FootballGuys.com’s Jene Bramel. Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant returned from the injury in just seven weeks this season.

Edelman has 61 catches for 692 yards with two touchdowns this season. He suffered the injury during the first quarter of the Patriots’ Week 10 win, in which he had four catches for 53 yards.

Wide receivers Brandon LaFell, Danny Amendola, Aaron Dobson and Keshawn Martin will have to step up in Edelman’s absence. Amendola had 10 catches for 79 yards Sunday.
