Chelsea hopes to use its UEFA Champions League game at Maccabi Tel-Aviv as a confidence-building platform.

The Blues can secure a place in the Round of 16 with a win in Israel and if Dynamo Kiev fails to beat FC Porto in the other Group G game. Maccabi Tel-Aviv sits last in the group but still can dent Chelsea’s hopes of progression.

Chelsea defeated Maccabi Tel Aviv 4-0 on Sept. 16 in the teams’ last meeting, but its form dipped after that victory. Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has plenty of work to do to restore his team to the level it maintained for much of last season. The second game against Maccabi Tel-Aviv is another step in that direction.
