Report: Cowboys Could Have Interest In Johnny Manziel During Offseason

The Dallas Cowboys had their chance to bring Johnny Manziel to Dallas and passed, but might they end up revisiting the idea?

ESPN’s Adam Schefter, who’s as tapped in as anyone else across the NFL, wrote Wednesday about Manziel, who clearly isn’t working out in Cleveland. The Browns demoted Manziel to third-string quarterback after his latest antics, and with Josh McCown done for the season, the Browns are giving the keys to Austin Davis over the former first-round pick.

It’s becoming more and more evident Manziel’s time in Cleveland could be nearing an end. If the Browns decided to move on from Manziel, there could be, Schefter says, a handful of teams interested in his services. One of those teams, Schefter reasons, could be the Cowboys.

“Dallas made the right call then (when it passed on Manziel in the 2014 NFL Draft), but it could have another chance here on Manziel following a season in which Dallas has struggled to line up a reliable starter or dependable backup,” Schefter wrote on ESPN.com. “With Romo’s durability in question, some around the league believe Jones could again have interest in Manziel. It would be very Jerry-like, too, for him to make a play for Manziel this winter.”

Manziel to the Cowboys would make at least a modicum of sense. First of all, 36-year-old Tony Romo is starting to break down and looks to be nearing the end of his career. From Manziel’s standpoint, a change of scene could do him some good, and he is from Texas. However, given his partying habits, bringing him home might not be the best idea.

Then again, it is Jerry Jones and the Cowboys, so it wouldn’t be the offseason’s biggest surprise.
