Have we seen the last of Calvin Johnson?

The Detroit Lions three-time All-Pro wide receiver released a statement Wednesday saying he wasn’t sure what he wanted to do with his career.

“Like many players at this stage of their career, I am currently evaluating options for my future,” Johnson said, via NFL.com. “I would expect to have a decision regarding this matter in the not-too-distant future.”

The Lions quickly followed suit.

“We obviously have profound respect for Calvin and certainly understand and appreciate his decision to give proper thought and consideration to his football future.”

One anonymous former teammate told the Detroit Free Press that he isn’t surprised that Johnson, only 30 years old, is considering hanging up the spikes.

“…But I think the guy’s beat up,” he said. “I think he’s been through enough. And I think it’s just his time. He’s made the money, got the records, but whatever. I don’t know for sure if he’s going to do it. I don’t know if he’s going to get that itch to keep going. I really don’t know.”

If Johnson walked away, he’d rank 27th on the all-time receiving yards list, 43rd in receptions, and 22nd in receiving touchdowns.
