David Price has been in the American League East for almost his entire career, but he never has experienced the Boston Red Sox-New York Yankees rivalry firsthand. He’s excited he’ll have the chance to now.

The Red Sox left-hander got his first taste of the rivalry Tuesday, albeit in a spring training game, fanning six Yankees over four innings, including two strikeouts each of Alex Rodriguez and Mark Teixeira. But Price already knows it’ll be different come April.

“It will be intense,” Price said, per MassLive.com’s Christopher Smith. “It’s definitely going to be the biggest rivalry I’ve ever been a part of. So I’m looking forward it. It’s going to be 18, 19 games of good baseball. So I’m looking forward to that.”

Price did give up one run this time, a home run to center fielder Aaron Hicks, but he allowed just two other hits and no walks. And it definitely was a step up from Price’s first spring outings, where he gave up four hits, including two solo homers, to the Minnesota Twins over three innings.

“It was definitely something I wanted to do better today than I did five days ago,” Price said. “I want to make sure I commanded my fastball.”
