Sting reportedly has wrestled in his final match.

Steve Borden, known across the sports entertainment industry as “Sting,” has decided to retire, sources connected to the wrestling legend told TMZ Sports.

Sting suffered a serious neck injury during a match with fellow WWE superstar Seth Rollins back in September at the “Night of Champions” pay-per-view event. It initially was unclear how long Sting would be sidelined or whether he’d wrestle again, but sources told TMZ Sports that several doctors agree it’d be too risky for him to jump back into the squared circle.

According to TMZ, Sting, who turns 57 on Sunday, officially was diagnosed with cervical spinal stenosis, a condition affecting the nerves that can result in extreme pain and discomfort. Former WWE superstar Edge was forced to retire from the same condition in 2011.

We haven’t seen the last of Sting, who served as the face of WCW throughout the 1990s. He’s scheduled to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame next month on the eve of WrestleMania 32, and there’s always a chance he could remain with WWE in a non-physical role moving forward.

But don’t expect to see Sting throwing anyone into a Scorpion Deathlock anytime soon. Those days are over, though it was a great run, to say the least.
