Two of European soccer’s most consistent teams will clash Wednesday in Germany, but only one will continue its pursuit of UEFA Champions League glory.
Bayern Munich hosts Juventus at the Allianz Arena in the second leg of their Champions League Round of 16 series. The teams drew 2-2 on Feb. 23, creating a host of scenarios in which either side could triumph at the other’s expense in Germany.
Juventus will be without Claudio Marchisio, Giorgio Chiellini and Paulo Dybala. The three have suffered calf injuries in recent weeks and didn’t recover in time to play in the second leg.
Bayern Munich center backs Jerome Boateng and Holger Badstuber will play no part. David Alaba is likely to play in at the heart of a makeshift defense.
Combined, the teams have lost just twice in their last 34 games in all competitions. They could draw in Munich, but one is guaranteed to table its Champions League dream for another season.
