Is Tiger Woods Nearing Return To PGA Tour Play? Depends Who You Ask

It sounds as if a Tiger sighting on the PGA Tour might be on the horizon.

Tiger Woods’ return to competitive golf looks like it will happen “sooner than later,” Golf Channel/Golf Digest reporter Tim Rosaforte tweeted Friday.

According to Rosaforte, Woods could return as soon as two weeks from now at the Wells Fargo Championship, which begins May 2 in Charlotte, N.C. Woods also could return for the Players’ Championship the week after, Rosaforte added.

However, Woods’ camp refuted the report shortly after the news broke. Woods’ agent, Mark Steinberg, told ESPN.com there’s no update on Woods’ return from a back injury.

“Chatter is just that,” Steinberg told ESPN.com’s Bob Harig in a text message. “Literally nothing new to report. That is truth.”

Woods hasn’t played since last season’s Wyndham Championship in August. However, the former world No. 1 underwent back surgery in September. The original prognosis wasn’t encouraging, and Woods’ status for 2016 was uncertain at best.

A big reason for speculation over Woods’ future stems from his appearance Thursday at a junior tournament in Georgia. While there, Woods hit some shots — including 300-yard drives — which seemed to indicate he was farther along in his rehab than most imagined.

Time will tell.
